Add Even More Sparkle to Your Wedding with Confetti Pictures ♡

Updated: Apr 27, 2023

What is confetti and why you should have it?

Remember those days when the bride and groom would step outside the church after saying their vows and their guests would just lob rice at them as hard as possible? These days the tradition has become slightly friendlier and more fun.

Now we have small pieces of coloured paper that are thrown over the bride and groom, not always straight after the ceremony either (although this always depends on where your ceremony is, most church weddings you usually get the guests lined up outside the main entrance waiting to greet the couple with confetti).

When the conditions are right and your guests are positioned properly, confetti throws make for some brilliant photos that can really make your wedding album look that little bit more magical. Not to mention the video footage of the confetti being thrown with some creamy slow-motion action that makes you look like you’re in a princess fairytale. A well-orchestrated confetti throw can also keep your guests feeling involved in the action and entertained which is a huge bonus. Keeping your guests engaged in the day whilst doing something fun during your photo session stops them from going off and getting drunk too early in the day.

When and how should we use confetti?

Every wedding is different and the schedules can vary depending on the venue and the time of day you had your ceremony. If you prefer to have your guests throw it at you after the ceremony as you walk back up the aisle as newlyeds, whilst traditional, is not really the best option for capturing the best photos and footage possible.

The ideal scenario is to gather everyone in the group photos area outside the venue (weather permitting) shortly after your ceremony, once they’ve all had a chance to say hello and congratulate you, before the wedding breakfast. Another option is to have some thrown as you cut the cake, or during the first dance (first dance photos look amazing if a confetti canon is used too).

Once everyone is gathered round there are a few different ways to get some cracking shots. One of the most popular ways to pose this is to have two rows of the guests forming a human aisle for the bride and groom to walk through whilst having the confetti thrown over the couple.

Another bonus tip is to stop halfway down, look at each other, and have a kiss, then carry on walking.

Confetti throws are so much fun and look amazing in photos but there’s another level to this showpiece that we haven’t yet discussed: smoke bombs!

What types of confetti are there and which should you buy?

There are multiple types of confetti available. Dried-up coloured paper, flower petals, confetti canons and many more. We ourselves have a confetti bottle of champagne included in our package which we offer all of our coupes during a wedding day. If you want to use your own, check with your venue before you order any as the majority of venues require you to use biodegradable confetti (and some venues do not allow any confetti to be used at all, so we advise you to enquire with your venue about their confetti policy as soon as you can).

All our petals are dried to ensure that they stay looking their best, but, most importantly, they will biodegrade as easily and quickly as fresh petals. Mention this to your venue and it should be fine. It's always best to ask your venue’s permission if it's ok to throw confetti.
